Overview

Highlights

Make your way via Hellyer Gorge for a spectacular scenic route to the West Coast or Cradle Mountain. The windy route and steep cliffs make for a jaw-dropping wilderness drive, and is a favourite route for bike riders and touring cars. The welcoming canopy of rainforest provides a spectacular picnic spot along the banks of the Hellyer River.

There are toilet and barbecue facilities, and the picnic area is the starting point for two short walks: the River Walk and the Old Myrtle Forest Walk. From Wynyard, take a 30-minute drive via Mount Hicks Road to Yolla where the road joins the Murchison Highway. Follow this through Hellyer Gorge and on to the historic town of Waratah, the iconic Cradle Mountain or deeper into the Western Wilds.
