Overview

Highlights

Ellenborough Falls is located on the Bulga Plateau at Elands, one hour's drive north-west of Taree on Tourist Drive Eight, and are a spectacular site. At 200 metres, Ellenborough Falls is the tallest single drop waterfall in New South Wales and amongst the tallest in the southern hemisphere. A timbered walkway (641 steps) wends to the bottom of the falls, complete with rest spots, providing a comfortable 30 minute walk. There is also a 10 minute walk to The Knoll which has magnificent views looking directly across to the falls.

You can drive from Wingham to the falls in approximately 45 minutes, however there are 15 kilometres of unsealed road from Bobin to the falls so please drive to the conditions of the unsealed road. Please note that load limits have been imposed on two bridges between Wingham and Marlee. These limits are 12 tonnes on the Duffs Bridge and eight tonnes on the Marlee Bridge.

Important Information

Guidelines

  • Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for the most up to date information.
  • Ensure you observe all safety signs. Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
  • Always enjoy waterfalls from trails and marked viewing points. Do not climb over barriers as cliff edges and slippery surfaces may cause injury or death.
  • Only swim where permitted. Don’t jump from cliff edges into water bodies.
  • Swimming near or under waterfalls can be dangerous due to strong currents, submerged hidden rock ledges and other dangers. The force of a waterfall can be incredibly strong and unfortunately, many people have drowned. Follow warning signs and take caution.
  • Wear suitable footwear and always ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements when exploring Australia.
  • Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
  • Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
  • Parking, camping and national park fees may apply. See parks website for more details.
  • Please do not feed the wildlife.
