All About
Elephant Rock (Sleeping Buddha) Hike
Highlights
Elephant Rock, also known as the Sleeping Buddha and officially called Carlton Ridge, and known as Thethebeleng by the local indigenous community, is a large rock formation located on the banks of the Ord River, near the Kimberley town of Kununurra. The hike to the top offers incredible views of the Ord River and surrounds.
When viewing from the Celebrity Tree Park in town, is where you will see where the name the 'Sleeping Buddha' comes from. When viewing from a difference angle at one end of the ridge, it resembles an elephant's head, which can be seen from Packsaddle Road or by travelling on the upper Ord River towards Lake Argyle.
The Elephant Rock (Sleeping Buddha) hiking trail is a must-do Aussie Bucket List experience when visiting Kununurra, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
