Hutt Lagoon
Highlights
Hutt Lagoon is a must-see natural bucket list attraction located between Port Gregory and Kalbarri along Western Australia's Coral Coast. Sometimes bright bubblegum pink, sometimes lilac, and occasionally even red, the waters of Hutt Lagoon can be an extraordinary sight. Head out before sunset and watch the colours transform. Following the Indian Ocean Drive from Perth, you’ll reach Hutt Lagoon in just under six hours. If you’re coming from Kalbarri, you’ll see your first glimpse of the lagoon within 30 minutes.
A scenic flight from Geraldton will give you the most unique view, with the Indian Ocean creating a striking contrast with the pink lake. It’s the extremely high level of salinity that gives the lagoon its unusual hue, and its vibrancy changes with the seasons and time of day. The best time to visit is on a clear day, around mid-morning or sunset.
There are a number of places to stop and view this natural phenomenon along Port Gregory Road. Nestled between Hutt Lagoon and the beach, you’ll find the picturesque fishing village of Port Gregory. Pick up refreshments at the general store and choose from farmstays, chalets, beach cottages and the caravan park for your overnight stay. Visit between July and September to see the countryside blanketed in wildflowers.
