Overview

Highlights

Situated amongst the stunning ancient landscape of Nitmiluk National Park, the Jatbula Trail follows the route travelled by generations of Jawoyn people, from Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) to Leliyn (Edith Falls). Following the western edge of the Arnhem Land Escarpment, the trail traverses sandstone plateau scrub, woodlands, open forest, sandstone monsoon forest and riverine landscapes. The trail was named after Jawoyn Traditional Owner Peter Jatbula who was instrumental in securing land rights for his people and who walked the route of the trail with his family. Experiencing the Jatbula Trail is truly a must, however it is essential to be well prepared to safely enjoy the walk. Please be sure to read the information provided as your safety and enjoyment of the walk is important to us.

The Jatbula Trail is a 62 kilometre one way walk, departing from Nitmiluk Gorge, traversing the western edge of the Arnhem Land escarpment and finishing at Leliyn (Edith Falls). You will walk in the footsteps of generations of Jawoyn who traditionally travelled this land over sandstone plateau scrub, woodlands, monsoon forests and riverine landscapes. The trail can be completed in 5 days/4 nights or 6 days/5 nights with each night spent at a stunning campsite close to a babbling spring, cascade or a plunging waterfall.
