Highlights

Mataranka Thermal Pool is a great place to unwind. The warm, crystalline waters of the natural pool is said to have the power to soothe aches and pains after a long day on the road. The water is spring fed, bubbling up at a fairly constant temperature of 34 degrees Celsius. The surrounding paperbark and palm forest filters the sun and leaves soft, dappled light playing on the water's surface. The area around the pool is a natural breeding ground for the little red flying fox. The breeding season is usually from November to May, but often extends into the drier months. The Mataranka Thermal Pool may be inaccessible at times due to flooding between the months of November through to April.

Important Information

Guidelines

Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for up to date information on the current conditions. Ensure to check for any updates relating to any warnings that may be issued for the area, and check for the opening and closing times.
Ensure you observe all safety signs, and be aware that whenever you are near water in the NT, there is a risk of crocs! Crocodile warning signs and Crocodile Management Zones are not found everywhere.
Wear suitable footwear and always ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements when exploring the Northern Territory.
Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
