Overview

Zen Precision and Tasmanian Purity: Omotenashi Hobart

Omotenashi is the visionary project of Sophie Pope and Chef Lachlan Colwill. The venue challenges the traditional fine-dining aesthetic by placing an elegant, minimalist counter within a luxury car showroom, where the "boot" of a prestige vehicle often serves as a novel cloakroom. The experience is centered around a single, 12-to-15-course degustation that bridges Japanese technique with the raw, seasonal produce of Tasmania. Guests dine together around an open kitchen, witnessing the meticulous preparation of dishes served on antique Japanese ceramics and locally crafted stoneware. With its quiet beauty, focused narrative, and limited seating, Omotenashi offers a meditative 3.5-hour journey that is widely regarded as one of Hobart's most profound culinary achievements.
