Ovolo Woolloomooloo sits majestically atop the historic Finger Wharf—the longest timber-piled wharf in the world—extending directly over Sydney Harbour in the upscale suburb of Woolloomooloo. Built between 1910 and the early 1920s, the wharf originally served as a wool export terminal and embarkation point for wartime troops and post-war migrants. In 2015, Ovolo Hotels transformed the heritage‑listed structure into a stylish boutique hotel, preserving exposed beams, original freight conveyors, and vintage lifts while injecting contemporary character and design flair. Its enviable waterfront setting is just a short walk from iconic Sydney attractions like the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, the Royal Botanic Garden, and Circular Quay.

Design & Ambience

Designed by HASSELL Studio under Matt Sheargold, the interior design celebrates the wharf’s industrial roots with high ceilings, exposed wooden beams, sweep of skylights, original brick, concrete conveyors, and vintage machinery—all softened by quirky modern touches, neon lighting, commissioned Australian artworks, and plush seating zones throughout the expansive Lo Lounge lobby area.

The vast open atrium‐style lobby features eclectic vignettes, a free lollipop bar, retro arcade machines, a pool table, Spotify tunes, and the daily Apero Hour happy hour (complimentary drinks and snacks between late afternoon/early evening).

• Alibi is Australia’s first fully plant‑based restaurant, crafted by culinary visionary Shannon Martinez, offering Mediterranean‑inspired dishes like Cotoletta parmigiana, croquettes, and quince doughnuts in an airy glass pavilion setting.
