Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

Highlights

Welcome to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, an oasis of 30 hectares in the heart of the city. Wrapped around Sydney Harbour, the Gardens occupy one of Sydney's most spectacular positions.

Established in 1816, it is the oldest scientific institution in the country and is home to an outstanding collection of plants from Australia and overseas. From the provocative rare and threatened plants of the world to the romantic rose garden, the themed garden areas show the diverse beauty of nature.

Special features include: Cadi Jam Ora - First Encounters is a garden display that remembers and acknowledges the Cadigal - the original inhabitants of Sydney's city centre - and their relationship with this land.

Aboriginal Heritage Tours of the Royal Botanic Garden run every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday as well as a Behind the Scenes Sensory Tour every Tuesday and Friday. Bookings are essential online.

There is also a free guided walk (with limited capacity) that departs daily from the Garden Shop.

Free Wifi is available throughout the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. Download the free app for self-guided audio walking tours, information on the latest events, and to navigate your way around the Garden.

It’s really nice to visit the gardens for a stroll or even a break from walking. Sit and relax and soak up the views. Listen to the bats, watch the sunrise or sunset over the iconic harbour. What’s not to love?
