Overview

Highlights

Deviate off the Gibb River Road to visit the magnificent Sir John Gorge on the Fitzroy River. Located near the Mornington Wilderness Camp. You will be amazed by the spectacular ochre cliffs and their almost mystical reflection of light across the tranquil water at sunset. Hire a canoe, take a swim in the refreshing fresh water or just relax and enjoy the pristine scenery. Birdwatchers and photographers will enjoy the abundance of wildlife. With some 170 species of birds and a landscape which reflects life prior to human intervention, your visit will be a truly memorable experience.

Pack a picnic or some sunset refreshments to make the most of your visit. Take a self-guided walk or join one of the excellent escorted tours to this amazing remote location. If it is within your budget, take the opportunity to see the gorge from above on a scenic flight or helicopter tour. Sir John Gorge is a 7 hour drive from Broome or 8 hours from Kununurra. You will need a four wheel drive to get to the gorge.
