What to bring:
- 2 hr surf instruction to suit your skill level.
- Surf safety information.
- All the necessary learn-to-surf equipment, including soft beginner board, leg-rope, full-length wetsuits.
- Hot showers and change room for before and after your lesson.
- Storage area to keep your belongings safe while you surf.
What's not included
- You will need to be wearing your bathers under your wetsuit for your lesson.
- Please bring your own towel.
- If you have a sunscreen that you prefer to use, please bring this with you and apply before your lesson. We also provide sunscreen if you need it before your lesson.
- Please bring a small bag to store your belongings safely at the shop while you are surfing.
Itinerary:
- We recommend you arrive 15 minutes before your lesson commences, so that we can get you fitted with the right sized wetsuit and surfboard.
- Change rooms and bathroom facilities are available for you to use before your lesson, as well as hot showers after your lesson has finished.
- A storage area is also available for your belongings while you surf.

Go Ride A Wave Anglesea
- Finding us is a breeze! Go Ride a Wave’s Anglesea shop is conveniently located on the Great Ocean Road, directly opposite Anglesea Main Beach.
- If you’re approaching from Geelong, enter Anglesea and cross the river. Continue for 800 meters past the bridge until you encounter a sharp right-hand bend featuring a cluster of shops, famously known as the Four Kings.
- Make a turn into the car park situated at this bend, and you’ll find Go Ride a Wave nestled in the middle of these shops. Our prime location ensures you’re in the midst of the action, ready to embark on your surfing adventure.

What to bring
- You will need your own swimsuit, towel and bag for your belongings. We recommend that you apply sunscreen before your lesson and leave all jewellery and valuables in your bag or at home, to prevent loss or damage while you are in the water.
- Go Ride A Wave provide all the necessary learn-to-surf equipment, including soft beginner board, leg-rope, full-length wetsuits.
Special requirements
- Children between the ages of 5-9 years need to be assisted by a non-surfing adult in the water. This adult will not be charged for attending the class and is needed to assist children carry and manoeuvre the surfboard on the beach and in the water.
Children Only Lessons.
Children are more than welcome to attend any session! But for little groms (5-9 years old) wanting to learn in the company of peers, they can choose between two additional class options:
- Kids Only Surf Lessons. Available in the school holidays, these 90-minute classes are designed to introduce young beginner surfers aged 5 to 14 to the ocean in a fun, safe and inclusive way.
- Surf Groms. Surfing Australia's National Surf Program for Children 5-12 years consists of 4 x 1.5-hour progressive sessions with a strong focus on fun, ocean awareness and surfing development.
Restrictions
- Learning to surf with Go Ride A Wave is an accessible and inclusive experience. No matter your ability level or water skills, we have a lesson perfect for everyone. If you are nervous about your ability level or have a special need, get in touch with us to see if a private lesson may be more appropriate for you.
- Learning to surf with Go Ride A Wave is extremely safe with our highly trained and fully qualified lifeguard staff. We use safe, soft surfboards.
- When learning, we stay in waist deep water where we can always stand. Surfing is so safe that we don't require a minimum swimming ability!
Extras
We know you're going to love your surfing experience with Go Ride A Wave! If you are keen to get back into the water to progress your surfing to the next level, you can choose to:
- hire a wetsuit and surfboard for 2 hours or a full day to test your new skills out in the water; or
- upgrade to our 3 x progressive lesson Surf Course, which comes with 12 bonus online surf theory modules
- book a 1:1 Private Surf Lesson to hone your surfing skills even further!
Disclaimers
- General public lessons require payment in advance to secure the booking. Bookings can be made via the Go Ride A Wave website, by phone or instore.
- Surfing lessons will not be cancelled due to rain, but maybe cancelled if the conditions are deemed to be dangerous, or if the surf is too small to run a class.
- All customers will be given a refund or a credit if the class is cancelled.
- Refunds will be given to clients if they cancel their lesson, and providing they give Go Ride A Wave at least 24 hours notice. If clients fail to arrive or cancel on the day, then they will forfeit their payment.
- All customers must complete and sign an Acknowledgement of Risk form prior to each class
- Go Ride A Wave requests Gift Vouchers are redeemed within one year of issue, but we are happy to extend and do not impose Gift Voucher expiration dates, so you can be confident your gift will have an opportunity to be used.
