Overview

Highlights

Twin Falls is set in the magnificent World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. One of Kakadu’s big two waterfalls, Twin Falls gorge has a split cascade that plunges from a 150 m high cliff face into a deep pool. In the dry season, the waterfall slows to a trickle and you can walk right to the base of the imposing escarpment. Board the boat shuttle to Twin Falls, then tackle a walking track over boulders and sand to get to the boardwalk. Tickets for the boat shuttle can be purchased at the Bowali Visitor Centre, Twin Falls or commercial outlets. During the dry season the waterfall slows to a trickle.

Access isn’t possible during the wet season due to flooding but scenic flights are a great way to see the falls in full flow while taking in Kakadu’s vast landscape.

Add Twin Falls Gorge in Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory to your Aussie Bucket List if you enjoy hiking, nature and exploring Australia's great outdoors.

Important Information

Guidelines

  • Children under 16 free for the boat shuttle.
  • Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for up to date information on the current conditions. Ensure to check for any updates relating to any warnings that may be issued for the area, and check for the opening and closing times.
  • Ensure you observe all safety signs, and be aware that whenever you are near water in the park, there is a risk of crocs! Kakadu has Crocodile Management Zones to minimise risk to humans. Even in these zones you should be cautious. Crocodile warning signs and Crocodile Management Zones are not found everywhere.
  • Always enjoy waterfalls from trails and marked viewing points. Do not climb over barriers as cliff edges and slippery surfaces may cause injury or death.
  • Only swim where permitted. Don’t jump from cliff edges into water bodies.
  • Swimming near or under waterfalls can be dangerous due to strong currents, submerged hidden rock ledges and other dangers. The force of a waterfall can be incredibly strong and unfortunately, many people have drowned. Follow warning signs and take caution.
  • Wear suitable footwear and always ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements when exploring the Northern Territory.
  • Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
  • Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
  • Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
  • National Park fees and camping fees apply. See Kakadu National Park's website for more details.
  • Do not feed the wildlife.
  • Leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but memories.
