Overview

Highlights

Wangi Falls is the best-known and most popular attraction in Litchfield National Park - a park renowned for its accessibility and pristine natural beauty. The falls are found near the western boundary of the park, 150 kilometres south of Darwin along sealed roads. Relax in the expansive manicured lawns of the picnic area and watch the water from the two falls cascade over the rock escarpments into the large plunge pool below. Take a dip in the pool, which is surrounded by lush monsoon rainforest.

There is a kiosk, picnic tables and barbecues with a camp ground and hot showers nearby. There are various walking tracks, including a three kilometre loop track that takes you up and over the falls and back to the car park, or a return option to the Treetop viewing platform.

The falls are regularly closed to swimming during the tropical summer from October to March, as currents in the pool can become strong and dangerous. During summer, the fast-flowing falls make for spectacular photography. At these times the kiosk and picnic facilities remain open.

Important Information

Guidelines

  • Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for up to date information on the current conditions. Ensure to check for any updates relating to any warnings that may be issued for the area, and check for the opening and closing times.
  • Always enjoy waterfalls from trails and marked viewing points. Do not climb over barriers as cliff edges and slippery surfaces may cause injury or death.
  • Only swim where permitted. Don’t jump from cliff edges into water bodies.
  • Swimming near or under waterfalls can be dangerous due to strong currents, submerged hidden rock ledges and other dangers. The force of a waterfall can be incredibly strong and unfortunately, many people have drowned. Follow warning signs and take caution.
  • Wear suitable footwear and always ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements when exploring the Northern Territory.
  • Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
  • Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
  • Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
  • National Park camping fees may apply.
  • Do not feed the wildlife.
  • Leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but memories.

Beautiful water hole.

The falls weren’t flowing much when we were here but we do recommend visiting. We didn’t swim due to warnings of fresh water crocs but I believe people often do swim here.
