Mind over matters: 32 resources to boost our mental health

Two words on everyone’s lips right now: ‘mental health’. But what does that mean, and what does ‘healthy’ look like?

We are brought up with an awareness that we need to look after our physical health through exercise and nutrition - to keep us fit, strong, able and looking good. While we are increasingly realising the importance of assigning the same dedication to our mental health, knowing how to go about it can be tough. There’s no readily available, one size fits all ‘mind gym’ to join; no daily 6am mental boot camp...

Where do we find help and resources when we are not even totally sure what we are looking for?

The good news is, there’s plenty of assistance out there. The tricky bit is, much like diet and exercise, there’s an overwhelming plethora of advice, promises, platforms, pills and programs - ways to part with our hard-earned cash.

There are things that will work for us, fit our lifestyle and motivation, and a whole lot of things that won’t. Some things will feel good for a while and we will dive deeper in. Some things will fail us fast and if we are wise we will move on. But the key thing is, there are strategies and tools out there that will make a big positive difference - we just need to be prepared to try a few things on for size.

32 resources to get you started

The following list is a compilation of some of the better mental health assets I’ve discovered over the past few months while gathering for a work initiative.

I hope you find this valuable - not just now, while in pandemic survival mode - but in starting your journey to curate your own virtual mental ‘workout’. If you do, please share. There may be someone in your network that needs this right now. And if you have more resources to add to this list, please comment so we can all benefit!

A commitment to our mental health is a commitment to strengthening our greatest superpower: our mind. When we focus on nurturing our mental health, the rest of life becomes that bit easier and more rewarding. And we could all do with a bit of that right now!

The post goes on to list all of the best resources in Australia for your mental health, including our Aussie Bucket List app:
